Is The Buccaneers based on a book?

The Buccaneers was inspired by Edith Wharton’s unfinished final novel of the same name. After the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, who also penned The Age of Innocence, passed away in 1937, Marion Mainwaring completed the manuscript in 1993. The novel is described by Penguin Books as "a story of love in the gilded age that crossed the boundaries of society."

What is The Buccaneers about?

The drama centers around a group of young American girls who "explode into the tightly corseted London season of the 1870s, kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash as the land of the stiff upper lip is infiltrated by a refreshing disregard for centuries of tradition," according to Apple TV+. The daughters of America’s new rich (aka the buccaneers) were sent to England to secure husbands and titles, but their "hearts are set on much more than that, and saying 'I do' is just the beginning…"

Who is in The Buccaneers cast?

The cast is full of relative newcomers, but includes Mad Men and Good Girls alum Christina Hendricks as Mrs. St. George. Meet the rest of the stars of The Buccaneers and find out who they are playing:

Kristine Frøseth as Nan St. George

Froseth previously appeared in the Harvey Weinstein-inspired drama The Assistant.

Alisha Boe as Conchita Closson

You might recognize Boe as Jessica from 13 Reasons Why.

Josie Totah as Mabel Elmsworth

Totah, who came out as transgender in 2018, is known for her recurring role on the Disney Channel series Jessie

Aubri Ibrag as Lizzy Elmsworth

A relative newcomer, Ibrag previously starred in the Australian teen drama The Dive Club, which streamed on Netflix.

Imogen Waterhouse as Jinny St. George

An English actress and model, Waterhouse has appeared in several projects, including the horror movie Braid the the fantasy series The Outpost. She's also little sister to Suki Waterhouse

Mia Threapleton as Honoria Marable

Let's get this out of the way: Threapleton is Kate Winslet's daughter. She's also a fine actress in her own right, as demonstrated by her turn in I Am Ruth, in which she starred alongside her mom as a child in crisis.

Josh Dylan as Lord Richard Marable

Mamma Mia! fans know Dylan as Young Bill in the sequel. He's also played Captain Adam Hunter in Allied.

Guy Remmers as Theo, Duke of Tintagel

Remmers, who hails from Bristol, England, is fairly new to the acting scene. In fact, he has just one other credit, the short film Lessons.

Matthew Broome as Guy Thwarte

Figuratively speaking, Broome is fresh out of acting school. Buccaneers is his first credit on IMDB.

Barney Fishwick as Lord James Seadown

U.K. comedy lovers might know Fishwick from his sketch group, GIANTS. But he's otherwise fairly unknown in the U.S. Get ready for that to change!
