USA Cycling Confirms Death of 17-Year-Old 'Rising Star' Magnus White

USA Cycling has confirmed the passing of National Team athlete Magnus White, a "rising star" in the sport.

"It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share the news that 17-year-old Magnus White has passed away in a training accident," the entity communicated in a statement released Sunday, July 30, providing further insight that he was "struck by a car on a bike ride in his home of Boulder, Colorado."

The teen was reportedly "focused on his final preparations before leaving for Glasgow, Scotland to compete in the Junior Men’s Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Championships on August 10, 2023," according to the note.

Providing more details on how he began his career, the statement shared how he "fell in love with cycling at an early age through Boulder Junior Cycling."

It continued: "He was a rising star in the off-road cycling scene and his passion for cycling was evident through his racing and camaraderie with his teammates and local community."

White was victorious at the 2021 Junior 17-18 Cyclocross National Championships, going on to compete with the USA Cycling National Team for a full season of European Cyclocross racing. He then closed out the year at the 2022 UCI Cyclocross World Championship in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Additionally, he represented the U.S. and his own hometown Boulder community at another Cyclocross World Championships in January 2023, and throughout this summer, had been competing with the Mountain Bike World Championships team.

The organization offered heartfelt condolences to all affected by the tragedy, before signing off, "We ride for Magnus," and directing readers to a GoFundMe campaign created by friends of the White family in honor of the deceased cyclist.
