Why Al Roker May Be Taking Time Off From the 'Today' Show Again in April

The anchor gave fans an update on his health.

Al Roker may be needing more time off after his latest health update.

On Mar. 28, the Today show host, 68, revealed that he will be undergoing another major surgery—following his surgery at the end of last year—that will most likely leave him out of the morning show for some time.

Roker took to his Instagram to share a photo of his Apple watch that showed that he had walked 13,677 miles. The host is devoted to walking every morning, and fans usually look forward to seeing a video update from him every day, stating that he got in his usual 10,000 steps a day.

It was evident in the post that Roker had surpassed his usual daily steps by nearly 3,000, and while he seems to be making strides, he did reveal in the caption that he will be undergoing knee replacement surgery late next month.

"Yesterday was the #bestdayyet when it comes to my steps on this #bumknee before my #kneereplacementsurgery in late April," he wrote. "Thanks to my #starttoday #family for the support!"

His wife, Deborah Roberts, whom he's been married to for 28 years took to the comments to show her support, writing, "Take it slow sweetie! ❤️"

"I agree with your wife ❤️" one fan added.

"You are a inspiration Al Roker! ❤️" another fan shared.

Roker was previously out of the Today Show for nearly three months due to a blood clot that started in his leg and made its way to his lungs. He revealed the news in an Instagram post back in Nov. 2022.

"So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been. Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs. After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery," he wrote. "Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon. Have a great weekend, everyone."

The host returned to the Today Show on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, but come April, he will most likely be out again for an undisclosed amount of time following his knee replacement surgery. Hopefully, it won't be too soon because fans look forward to seeing Roker every morning!

We're wishing the host a speedy recovery so he can get back to his walking goals!
