Jason Priestley Reflects on Luke Perry Friendship Following Anniversary of His Death
The two actors previously co-starred together on 'Beverly Hills, 90210.'
Four years after the world lost Luke Perry, his former co-star Jason Priestley is paying homage to his old friend.
Priestley—who starred alongside the late actor in the hit '90s TV series Beverly Hills, 90210—spoke out this week to remember Perry on the anniversary of his unexpected death.
Perry was only 52 when he died suddenly after suffering a stroke in March 2019. Four years later, Priestley, 53, says looking back at their friendship is "bittersweet" for him.
"Luke and I obviously were really good friends when we were working on the show together," Priestley said during the Monday, March 27 episode of the Hey Dude...The 90s Called hosted by Hey Dude alums David Lascher and Christine Taylor. "We were really good friends outside of that too."
Perry and Priestley—who played best friends Dylan McKay and Brandon Walsh, respectively, on the teen series—were also thick as thieves in real life, with the Riverdale star often showing up to Priestley's house unannounced on their off days during filming.
"He lived three blocks away from me in Los Angeles and he would just ride his bike over to my house and ring the doorbell," Priestley recalled. "I'd be like, 'Who's here?' and I'd open the door and it'd be Luke, like, 'Hey dude, what's up!'"
But even after the show wrapped in 2000, the pair still remained good friends up until Perry's death in 2019.
"We worked together a number of times outside of the show and we really enjoyed all the years we had together but unfortunately that got cut short," the Private Eyes actor continued. "It's bittersweet every March when we go by the anniversary of his passing."
Perry suffered a stroke at his home in Sherman Oaks, Calif. on February 27, 2019. He spent 5 days in the hospital before he was pronounced dead on March 4, 2019.
"It was a real freak thing that happened with him," he added, "and it was a good reminder to spend time with people you love and never take any of it for granted."
"It was such a freaking shock," Lascher then chimed in during Monday's podcast episode. "[Luke was] one of the sweetest, kindest, he was literally one of my first friends in L.A."
Following his death, Perry has been fondly remembered by tons of people in the industry, including his other co-stars Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Shannen Doherty and many more.
