Fans Want to See These Celebrities Host 'SNL' Season 48
The long-running series asked viewers for host suggestions on social media.
As we move into fall, NBC is gearing up for the upcoming 48th season of Saturday Night Live.
But it looks like they need some help picking hosts for the new episodes, so they asked fans for suggestions by posing the following question on Twitter: "Who do you want to host SNL?"
Within minutes, the post garnered tons of responses, and there are a few frequently mentioned names, some repeat hosts, and even some people nominating themselves.
The most popular answers were Jensen Ackles, who recently joined The Boys Season 3 as Soldier Boy, and Sam Heughan, who stars as Jamie Fraser in the historical drama Outlander.
One fan boldly announced, "i am begging for brett goldstein," and considering that the response has over 1,400 likes, it seems like many agree. Brett Goldstein won an Emmy in 2021 for his performance as Roy Kent in Ted Lasso.
A few other people nominated who have never hosted SNL before are Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), and Henry Winkler (Happy Days, Barry).
Yes, you read that right. Hargitay, Hamill, and Winkler have never hosted the popular late-night show despite being stars in the industry for decades.
In Winkler's case, SNL asked him to host years ago, but he turned it down, telling Newsweek, "it was not my time. I did not know how to do that."
But in 2021, he declared himself ready to go, stating, "Now, I could host. I am relaxed enough to try. But once again, you have to be asked." Maybe SNL will listen to the plea of many for Season 48.
Jinkx Monsoon from Ru Paul's Drag Race was another popular choice, while Carol Burnett and Randy Rainbow as a hosting pair were suggested a few times in the thread, with one fan saying, "These two would get into some good trouble together..."
Mentions also included Keke Palmer (Nope), Rhys Darby (Our Flag Means Death), Olivia Colman (The Crown), and Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), while many wanted past hosts like Adam Driver, Selena Gomez, and Natasha Lyonne to return.
Nicki Minaj was also suggested by a few, and although she was a musical guest on SNL a handful of times, she never hosted the show.
Some SNL fans who nominated themselves for the job include New York Times bestselling author Roxanne Gay and West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler.
Only time will tell who the lucky few will be. Presently, no official premiere date has been set for the iconic sketch show, but it will likely debut as part of NBC's fall TV lineup.
